DIY Quote Pillows

It was my sister Bre's birthday a couple weeks ago and I thought about this idea for
her present a few months before but like most things I procrastinate
and put it off to the very last minute.

My sister's favorite movie is "You've Got Mail" and one of her favorite books is "Peter Pan".
So I pulled up her favorite quotes from each and decided to put them
on pillows for her bed.

"Stars are beautiful, but they may not take an active part in anything, they must just look on for ever. It is a punishment put on them for something they did so long ago that no star now knows what it was. So the older ones have become glassy-eyed and seldom speak (winking is the star language), But the little ones still wonder."   - Peter Pan

"Something I wonder about my life. I lead a small life -well, valuable, but small- and sometimes I wonder, do I do it because I like it, or because I haven't been brave? So much of what I see reminds me of something I read in a book, when shouldn't it be the other way around?"
-Kathleen Kelly

I looked up a few ways to do this on Pinterest and saw some great ideas but I didn't love how uniform they looked when using a stencil or using transfer paper to place them on the pillows.

So I winged it :)

I got lucky and found these perfect pillows at TJ Maxx.
They are the right color and a perfect canvas fabric to write on with a fabric marker.

On the first pillow I used the Sharpie Rub a Dub marker. It writes more like an actual Sharpie marker.
The 2nd pillow I used this Permanent Fabric Marker Pen. It has brush tip on it.
I did test both of these markers out on my daughters onsie and washed it to make sure it wouldn't rub off and it did not even smear! It was perfect!

I took the actual pillow out of the pillowcase (via the zipper). Then I cut up a box and stuffed one peice inside and used a second peice on the inside to have a firm place to write. Then I took masking tape and centered a box to fit the quote inside.
Using a pencil I wrote the quote out and then traced the words with the fabric markers.

Pretty simple right!

I think they turned out great and my sister loved them :)
Not bad for procrastinating to the last minute right?!

You should go check out Bre's blog as well she is an amazing writer :)

    1. thank you Stephanie :D I actually bought the Sharpie fabric marker at Staples but I did get the other fabric marker at a fabric store. I'm sure Hobby Lobby would have either one of these though.
