Just Write

Over the past year I have tried to focus on writing and improving myself. I truly believe those 2 things go hand in hand because without writing I would have never been able to make sense of my jumbled thoughts. I learn as I write. I learn about myself, I learn about life, I learn about people.... I just learn.

Writing allows me to release all of the craziness in my head and makes it real... concrete.

I have always loved writing but it wasn't until this fabulous book was recommended to me that I realized how much I needed writing in my life.

That book is "The Right to Write" by Julia Cameron.

If you are remotely interested in writing you need to read this book. It is so inspirational! EVERYONE can and should write. Even if its just to work out your own thoughts.

Julia says:

"We should write because writing brings clarity and passion to the act of living. Writing is sensual, experiential, grounding. We should write because writing is good for the soul. We should write because writing yields us a body of work, a felt path through the world we live in. We should write above all, because we are writers whether we call ourselves writers or not."

I hope that you find the love for writing that I have. There is no need to worry about grammar or what anyone will think of it. Just write. Write for yourself. Write for your sanity. Write to get to know yourself better. Just write!

Love Always

  2. Happy SITS Day! I hope you have an amazing one! :)

I'm working on writing more this year, but not the blogging type (though I am trying to get that more regular again). I want to finish that book (or 2) that I've been working on forever...or at least get back to them. We shall see what the year brings! :)

  3. Hi Keia I am here from SITS. I completely agree about writing to help keep sane. I have shied away from it several times over the years, but I always come back and I'm always happy that I did.

    1. I have strayed from it in the past as well but I feel so much better when I take the time to work out my feelings on paper. Even if you shred it afterwards ha ha!

  4. For me writing started as a hobby. It slowly evolved into a daily practice and it now has become a part of my day. Like eating, showering and changing diapers :)

    1. sometimes its hard to find the time to write or you are just to tired to do it. I am pushing to write at least 30 minutes per day even if its just to work out the frustrations I am feeling. It usually frees up my mind for more creative writing as well.
I hope you are able to spend more time writing this year Leslie :D

  8. I just finished this book. I recommend her book, "The Artist's Way"

It is phenomenal and will really help you generate more creative writing. I used it for acting and my other endeavours.

    Good Luck!

  11. Thanks for the book recommendation, I am always looking for new books to read - and this one of course also reasonates with me as I love to write also. My problem is I have a strong desire to write a book (or more) but cannot seem to find the time to sit and finish! I wish you continued success and will be checking in every now and then to see how you are doing! Happy SITS Day!

    1. I have the same problem Jeanine. It's hard to find time to write especially a book. I have set a goal to write for 30 minutes a day even if I dont' feel like it just to get the words out and it usually turns into something more. Thank you for taking the time to comment :D

  18. I started keeping a journal this year as part of my New Year's resolutions. It's amazing what I've already learned about myself. I also find it interesting when I sit down to write a blog post I end up writing about something else entirely. I look forward to seeing where your journey takes you. Happy SITS Day.

    1. That happens to me a lot too. I sit down to write on a certain topic and end up writing something else. For example this post was originally going to be about keeping up with your goals but writing about writing just felt better :D
      Thanks again for coming over!

  19. I read Cameron's "The Artist's Way" years ago and loved it. I was thinking about re-reading it because I loved all the exercises in it. Now, though, I'm thinking I should try "The Right to Write" instead. Thanks for the inspiration! I can always use more of that!
